In late January the US Department of Justice (DoJ) requested that Google hand over a week's worth of search records . The DoJ claims it has made the request to show that voluntary regulation is not adequate to prevent children viewing unsavoury material, largely pornographic, that exists on the internet.
Google has formally rejected the demand in court documents they have filed
Google said the request would violate the privacy of its users and reveal trade secrets to its rivals. It also added that handing over the data was impractical and would not accomplish what the government wanted. |
