The British Computer Society (BCS) is the most widely recognised professional body amongst the IT sector according to a new public survey. Respondents also cited BCS as the key body responsible for setting and promoting professionalism within the industry alongside supporting professional qualifications.

The society recorded the highest number of spontaneous and prompted responses when asked to name professional bodies that cover IT; 27% named the BCS unprompted and 66% prompted. No other professional body scored more than 5% spontaneous awareness, clearly demonstrating that BCS remains the professional body at the forefront of IT practitioner’s minds.

The survey results are being announced in advance of the 2006 BCS IT Professional Awards which celebrate excellence, professionalism and innovation amongst IT practitioners.
